What is counselling?
Counselling can help you to make sense of different feelings and emotions. It can support you to find a way of understanding and dealing with difficult experiences past and present. It can help you to make sense of who you are and support you in facilitating your personal growth. I offer an integrative form of therapy, drawing on techniques from TA, CBT and Person Centred therapy.
Person Centred therapy is based on the idea that you, the client are the expert on your own life, and with support in counselling you can be empowered to make choices about your life, which lead to you living a more authentic, positive lifestyle. My role is to help you through this process without criticism or judgement, to listen to your difficulties and provide a safe, confidential space for you to be heard and feel understood.
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is a solution focused form of therapy, that provides an opportunity for you to explore your process and learn new techniques for improving your psychological health and well-being, in a safe, confidential and supportive environment. My role is to use CBT techniques including graded exposure, thought diaries and psychoeducation to help you to understand yourself better, and to provide feedback and suggestions for moving forward and overcoming any issues.
Transactional Analysis is a form of psychotherapy which looks at how we interact with others, and identify the roles that are played interchangeably, subconsciously. The aim of Transactional Analysis is to improve how you relate to others so each interaction becomes healthy and balanced. My role is to help you to identify any unhelpful behaviours you may have inherited throughout life, and any unhealthy patterns of relating, and offer interventions to break these patterns through conscious decision making and increased self-awareness.
